U.S. Venture, Inc. holds social media contest for social good
For every new “like” on their Facebook page through December 16, they’ll donate a pair of shoes to a child
attending Victory Community Development Center in Kenya
APPLETON, WI (December 2, 2016) – U.S. Venture, Inc. has launched a social media promotion on its Facebook page to raise awareness of the company’s unique partnership with Victory Community Development Center (VICODEC) school located in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya.
For every new “like” the U.S. Venture Facebook page receives from December 1-16, the company will purchase a new pair of shoes for a child attending VICODEC. The school provides food, medicine, and education, and empowers its community members to improve their lives. There are 600 children who attend the school.
U.S. Venture is well-known locally for its philanthropic endeavors addressing the root causes of poverty. Every year, the company puts on the U.S. Venture Open – one of the nation’s largest one-day charitable events. The outing raised more than $3.6 million this year, and more than $33 million in 31 years to assist non-profit organizations and programs in Northeast Wisconsin. But in an effort to support relief beyond our borders, the U.S. Venture/Schmidt Family Foundation partnered with VICODEC 11 years ago.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to support a transformative, difference-making initiative like VICODEC,” says John Schmidt, CEO and president of U.S. Venture. “Our partnership with them has grown over the years to effect real, meaningful, positive change in the lives of many. I’m proud of the giving culture our team members champion.”
Every two years, U.S. Venture employees have the chance to travel to Kenya. A group of eight visited VICODEC earlier this year.
“It was the rainy season while we were visiting, and since we slept at the school, we saw that the kids had to trudge through muddy roads in the rain to get to school – no umbrellas or rain jackets,” says David Scroggins, a U.S. AutoForce team member who made the trip. “Yet we were awakened by the voices of happy children as they arrived at school. It is a challenge for these kids just to get there, but they are so grateful. Nothing will deter them from getting an education, but a new pair of shoes sure would help.”
U.S. Venture is encouraging community members to share its Facebook page with information about the “likes for shoes” promotion. To learn more about VICODEC and the sponsorship opportunities, visit www.usventure.com/giving-back/vicodec.
