Alison Schmidt joins Society of Independent Gasoline Marketers of America (SIGMA) Board of Directors

29-Jan-2019

Appleton, Wis. – January 29, 2019 – Alison Schmidt, national sales director for U.S. Oil, a division of U.S. Venture, Inc., has joined the board of directors for the Society of Independent Gasoline Marketers of America (SIGMA), an organization working to benefit its members by helping them improve their ability to succeed in a free and fully competitive market for transportation fuels.

Founded in 1958, SIGMA is the national trade association representing the most successful, progressive and innovative fuel marketers and chain retailers in the United States and Canada. From the outset, the association has served to further the interests of both the branded and unbranded segment of the industry while providing information and services to members.

“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to share my knowledge with SIGMA while also working to grow the association’s impact,” Schmidt says. “SIGMA has played a major role in providing resources, educating its members on regulations, and bringing together those who are working to progress the motor fuel marketing industry.”

SIGMA has approximately 260 corporate members that command more than 50 percent of the petroleum retail market, selling approximately 80 billion gallons of motor fuel each year. These member companies operate throughout the United States and Canada.

The board meets quarterly, and Schmidt will serve on the membership committee. She currently serves on SIGMA’s Fuel Foundation Board of Governors and previously served as a member of SIGMA’s communication and education committees. Additionally, after spending nine years on SIGMA’s young executives committee, Schmidt aspires to find ways to engage the next generation in the transportation fuel industry.

Schmidt earned her bachelor’s degree in communications and business from St. Norbert College and a Master in Business Administration and Management from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She has held several sales and marketing roles with U.S. Oil since 2006. She currently serves on the Fuel Institute’s Board of Advisors and the Texas Food and Fuel Board of Directors (representing the Houston region). In the past, Schmidt has also held board positions with the U.S. Venture/Schmidt Family Foundation, Rebuilding Together Fox Valley, Boys & Girls Club of the Fox Valley, and the First Tee Northeast WI.
